Pro Tools Installer asking me to manually delete PT

Fair enough, but I’m not about to fret over an extra ten minutes or so. That’s just how it works now.

Yeah, it's not a lot of extra time but annoying.

So after reading this thread I decided to go ahead, again, to install 3.1 using the Avid Link update feature. This time I cliked on remove Protools and chose just the driver and program to remove.

After I ran that process it wanted to reboot, so I did.

The system comes back up and I notice that Avid Link indicates the new version needs to be installed. So, thinking this was just an extension of the install i.e. first part uninstall, second part install, I clicked install again. It did run a different process based on the menus that popped up. At the end it wanted to reboot again. After this the system came up and voila! 3.0 was the only thing on my computer. In summary, Avid link deleted Protools, rebooted, installed a new instance of the Program, rebooted and when I launched what I thought would be 3.1, actually 3.0 had been installed again and was the only option.

To add insult to injury, Avid Link indicated that 3.1 was available to install. Somebody is asleep at the wheel when it comes to Windows 10 installs.

Hmm, strange indeed. It left my 10.3.8 install alone. It certainly is not without its WTF moments these days. I NEVER use Avid Link. Uninstalled it altogether, actually. I download the installer, unzip, uninstall last version, install new version.

So here is the process that worked finally. Although most of the people on this thread probably figured it out.

First, I couldn't uninstall PT, Windows 10 grayed it out. So I used Avid Link and that worked. Reboot.

Then I downloaded from the Avid site. Ran the install, reboot again. 3.1 is now there. Not necessarily intuitive.
