Default PT 2018's engine very limited?

Hello there,

I'm running PT in native and I have a very capable CPU (10 core i7) but even though my CPU is running at 15% load, PT at buffersize 1024 just craps out (starts to sound bit-distorted) and I have to reopen the session. Seems like they've been running with the same headroom since PT10? I have only used 15% of my CPU resources and the session gives in.

You should be able to run fine with a 10-core i7 and a 1024 buffer size. I am able to get things done on a 4-core i5 at 256 buffers, but I have to freeze some tracks. Is it possible that there is a plugin that is going haywire?

What is your audio interface? Your issues more likely lie with that (drivers/hardware).

Yes. I would look into that first.
What VI's and plugins do you use?

The problem is not with PT. I could record 16 tracks simultaneously at 512 sample buffer on a 10-year-old i3 processor. I upgraded my rig this year only because I needed a Thunderbolt connection.

Hello, hoping someone has a suggestion:

In the last couple days something has gone wrong with either PT and/or plugins, and I cannot play a song without a "Pro Tools ran out of CPU power. AAE -9173" error. I'm running Windows 10, Intel i5 3GHz with 32GB RAM, and the CPU level in PT never goes above 15% when I get the error.

I found this comment interesting > "Is it possible that there is a plugin that is going haywire?" How can you tell if a plugin has gone "haywire", and what can be done to fix it?

These are the main plugins I'm using if anyone knows of known problems:
> East West: Ministry of Rock 2
> IK Multimedia: AmpliTube MAX

APPRECIATE any help to get ride of these errors so I can get back to work - THANKS!!

Steve

Increase the buffer size

Yep, been trying that, but just tried it again and got the same error (see screenshot). These were my settings:

H/W Buffer Size: 1024 Samples
> Dynamic Plug-in Processing
Cache Size: 8 GB

Make sure plugs are up to date. How? Determine the exact build/version of each plug. Contact each plug company you installed (not just the plugs in use), and verify compatibility of the exact version plug/exact version PTools/exact version OS.

Also, make sure to do all Avid recommended system optimizations.
