Default Perpetual differences

I like to know the differences between these two options if I may.

1.
Avid Pro Tools Studio Perpetual License Renewal (Continues Updates and Support for 1 Year) Reviews

2.Avid Pro Tools Studio Perpetual License Upgrade (Reinstates Updates and Support for 1 Year)

I already have a perpetual up to 2022.9. I like to chug along and would I just be upgrading for a year ?

Thank you.

You need 2. It is a reinstatement for those who have expired plans (like you)
#1 you can’t use. It’s for those with current active plans.

Thank for chiming in.

Okay I already paid the reinstatement last from PT12 which got me to my current version of 2022.9

$349 seems really steep for an upgrade.

2. Seems I'm able to upgrade I believe, correct ?

If you are not on a current plan you need a reinstatement. Not 1.

You got to 2022.9 but didn't keep up-to-date? Then you are back to needing a reinstatement. You get 30 days grace period but we are far past that now.
Reinstatement is not a one time thing if you don't keep track of things. It's a financial punishment to make sure you stay current. You didn't. So now it is back to the expensive one.

You buy #1 and it will not be usable. Caveat emptor. You'll just end up wasting time trying to get a refund. If you can get a refund.

Yikes, totally get it now. Sure is a financial punishment for sure. I'm glad I started my transition slowly to another DAW over a year ago. Although it's tough to learn something new since PT7 in the veins, LOL. Oh well.

Thanks BScout. I noticed your sig you have the Mac Pro running High Sierra. Have you considered a metal card & OpenCore to run the latest Mac OS ?

Thank you so much for your knowledge, and greatly appreciate it.

After 10 years+, this computer has served me well. Trying to make the transition to Apple Silicon (will pick up the new Mac Pro whenever that arrives.) The power savings of not running the 5,1 alone will be worth it (that computer is nearly never off.)
But the 5,1 will stay frozen and in storage for the next 5 years for archived projects (seeing as not all plugins will make the jump to Apple ARM.) I went up to Mojave once on it but didn't like the stability (it has a Metal card though sinking more money with an AMD RX card seems pointless now.)

Totally understand. I got the RX at a really good price back in the day and, right before the cat was out of the bag running OpenCore then the prices skyrocketed on the RX's. Thank you so much for your time BScout. Have a great weekend. Since you have a metal card in it, you have tried Martin Lo's script with openCore yet ? fairly easy to do.

I was on Big Sur but there wasn't a WiFi script yet created and you would have to buy a 4.0 bluetooth card so I ditched big Sur for the time being. Now there's a script and I do plan on upgrading the OS soon. Who would of thought with those amazing cats on the Mac forum can make the old Mac Pro literally see, and address *8* 64gigs sticks of ram through scripting could be achieved, WOW

I'll look into it. It's still my main system until a few more plugins transition and a few projects wrap up. I'll be less concerned tinkering with the system when it isn't critical for work.

Cool thing is that you can use a NVMe drive from scratch and do the installs and still keep working on your current drive. Yeah when I was on Big Sur, it was truly way faster than Mojave or High Sierra, More stable as well. Catalina was a farce and rolled out to soon.

Video truly gets a kick on being able to run 8K graphics, WOW. Who would of ever thought a 12 year old beast of a machine could render 8K.
