Plugin Count at 96kh....help please
Am I right in saying that I won't be able to run as many plugins (primarily WAVES plugs) at 96kh as I will at 48kh???
I got my 002r and started recording at 96kh. Works great. I am now doing a full band mixdown, and I am not able to run as many plugin's as I would like. So I have a couple questions.... (1) Does the 96kh affect the INITIAL recording process more than anything in mix? The reason I ask is since I recorded everything at 96kh and I have to eventually dither down to 44.1, will I lose quality in the final product if I convert the files to 48kh now that they are recorded and use plugs at 48kh?? This is all assuming that I can run more plugins at 48kh than 96kh..... (2) Is there anything else I can do besides set CPU to 85, and close all background applications to get more plugins to work without errors?? My setup is as follows: P4 2.4, 512 ram, external audio drive (ubs 2.0, 80 gig, 7200), 002r, dual VGA video card, etc....I am runing plugs such as C4, Rcomp, RVERB, standard GATE, X-NOISE...in most cases, I am using aux tracks to put the same comp/verb on the whole drums set rather than individual tracks...same with guitars, bass, etc.... Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. PSUS |

Re: Plugin Count at 96kh....help please
Yup, 96Khz greatly reduces the number of plugins you can run.
You won't get a clear, factual answer on question #1. You'll probably get several, which isn't much help. You can try various tweaks to squeeze a bit more performance out of the system. Eliminate unneeded system services, simplify video settings. Going to a faster CPU/motherboard/memory makes a difference. I'd try mixing at 96Khz until it becomes unbearable, then convert the session to 48 or 44.1. Bounce at both rates, and compare the results. If it still sounds good, finish at the lower rate.
