Default Problems with Pro Tools 8 LE Windows 7 64 bit

Hey guys,

I have pro tools 8.0.5 LE running on a windows 7 64-bit install, and I've been having 2 really annoying problems:

First, when running pro tools I repeatedly get the message over and over again that I am running out of CPU power even though my machine has 8 cores and the total cpu usage as reported by pro tools doesn't even hit 65%. Also, in the settings I only have 6 cpus assigned to pro tools.

Second, after a while of having my system on, I'll randomly stop hearing any sound. This includes system sounds, pro tools sounds, everything. I thought this was a driver issue, so I re-installed all my drivers. When that didn't work I re-installed pro tools as well. I'm still having the issue and don't know how to fix this. The only work around is to reboot everytime, but this is not a workable solution long term.

Thanks.

Did you try setting number of cores to 7? PT seems to run better with odd number of cores, at least for me. How about a Sandra

Yeah no matter how many cores I set it to, I always get the error. For interfaces I'm using the mbox pro. Took a look at the optimizations, but a lot of those don't really explain the issues I'm seeing. I believe the audio issue is definitely some sort of driver conflict. I usually leave the buffer set to 512. Honestly, if I can't get 20 tracks in pro tools with a limited number of plugins to run on an i7 processor, then something is seriously wrong.

thats why we need a sandra report, so we can see if you have any potential problems with the hardware.

Also, after re-installing pro tools again. Every sound that plays through my computer sounds about a semitone lower and is slower as well. Not sure...where this is coming from.

Hey again,

I just re-installed pro tools, but didn't update to 8.0.5. The strange issues with the sound cutting off/being distorted and sounding lower have disappeared. There's definitely something in the 8.0.5 update that does not work on my machine.

Big assumption trying to say what the overall effect of each optimization will be.
Considering you have a i7 that can't do 20 simple tracks I wouldn't overlook anything.

I had that problem when my sample rate was set to 48 on my interface and 44.1 in pro tools
