Default 2012 Mac Pro Cheese Grater - PT 2019.6 and Mojave Recommeded GPU

Hey gang!

Been awhile since I looked into this, and I'm assuming new GPU's have popped up that are much more reasonably priced than they were a few years ago. What's the general recommendation at this point for a video card to get us to Mojave?

Thanks!
Sig

I’ve read this document as to what Apple recommends, but I was hoping to get some insight from PT users. We purchased a card early last year from OWC that was recommended at that time and had nothing but problems with it...

Thanks!
Sig

I have one of these driving a 34" Ultrawide, and a 24". It was the lowest-priced compatible card with enough RAM to drive both. I did have to replace it recently, as my prior 4-year old one (same model) overheated (due to AC wars with my family over the summer) and started glitching.

AMD Radeon HD 7950 3 GB

Been using the GPU in my sig for a couple of years and now with Mojave and PT 2019.6. It made a HUGE difference even before I went to Mojave. I was beginning to have issues working to video starting with PT 12 until I upgraded the GPU.

I'm also using a flashed 3GB 7950 (4,1->5,1 Mac Pro with two old-school 20" Cinema Displays) and have had no problems with PT 2019.6/Mojave . . . If you don't count -9173 errors, that is.

7970 vs 7950? What’s the real difference?

A 7970 is a little faster, depending on manufacturer. I doubt it's a difference when working with an audio DAW.
