Default Classic Bundle, Found Culprit

Hi all.

I spent months, if not years trying to figure out what in the hell was going on with one of my setups.

I run a Protools 6.4cs9 on a G4 MDD Dual 1.25 2G ram OSX 10.3 and sometimes ( after about 3 or four projects I open ) Protools would crash and give me the "Protools has unexpectedly quit" message.

The crash log stated that its related to DAE, but its not specific as to what DAE problem its giving, the log only says DAE thread 12

After reinstalling OSX10.3 Three times ( Not all in the same day) and reinstalling Protools at least 5 times, I have found out that its the Bomb Factory Classic Compressors causing the problem. When I remove the Ilok key and open projects that do not have the 1176 or LA2A inserted on any tracks, any session opens up quickly with no problems, I have tested this hundreds of times. With the key inserted however, the project opens , and there is a 1 to 2 second delay and then BAM "protools has unexpectedly quit"

I tried opening a session with the Ilok removed, Protools will ask for the Ilok key when initializing certain plugins , I click on cancel and when the session opens the plugins will not be there where it was last saved. The plug in where it was saved will be greyed out which is normal if you don't have the key inserted. from there I click on the greyed out plugin and see that Protools will have the name of the plugin and it will also say error DAE-xxxxx beside the plugin name . Cant remember what the DAE number is right now ( Sorry not in the studio)

Anyway I have found what the problem is, I'm asking anyone out there if they know of a fix for this. Otherwise I will have to keep unplugging the Ilok key before opening a session and then plugging it back in to authorize the classic compressors if I need to use them.

also, yes I Have trashed preferences etc checked compact etc.

I wish my 001 would support Protools 7, But that's just a damn wish !!.

Nothing runs like my 001, I do have a G5 Dual 2; 8G ram but that system has an original Mbox on it and i need more than 2 i/o's. (Maybe I should get a 003)

Anyway. hope someone can shed some light maybe ??

Do your BF plugins show "Bomb Factory" or "Digidesign" as the vendor in your ilok account?

I know from experience that if it says bomb factory you need to run an older revision of the plugin than the most current one(this varies from plugin to plugin).

This is what it says:

Company: Bomb Factory Type: License
Expiration: Never
Date downloaded: 11/01/2009

Digidesign bought out BF sometime during the PT6 era. I think they were supposed to update these licenses to say "digidesign" instead of "Bomb factory" for free, but I doubt they are still doing this. The ones that say digidesign will run with newer revisions of the plugin. iirc, if you try to run too new of a version of the plugin installer with the older bomb factory branded ilok asset, it won't authorize. The older versions that do work with the bomb factory branded asset are probably buggier.

Check the compatibility archives and legacy downloads section here., I don't know how much longer all of this stuff will be up, but what you need is hopefully buried in here somewhere:

archive.digidesign.com

Also, I've always run PT6.4.1 Cs4... The archives should have an explanation of what all of the CS updates are for - I'm pretty sure Cs4 is the one that is best for mix systems and G4s.
