Default high-pitched noise from psu

so i've lurked around here long enough and finally got a question to ask. i have a solid working build from basically copying specs from those in the i7 sticky next door. no problems there or with pt m-p 8.0.4.

i am getting a hi pitched noise from the psu whenever the firewire cable from the profire 2626 is connected, and only when i run any app (media player, standalone virtual instrument, etc) that requires the profire 2626. the apps run fine though, just the noise from the psu.

i literally unplugged and reconnected everything one by one and know for absolute certain that the noise is coming from the psu resulting from the 2626 with the fw cable connected. if i shutdown, disconnect 2626, reboot then open the music apps... no noise. tried several different fw cables i have laying around the apartment but no difference.

what could this be? ac problem in the walls? bad 2626? bad psu? need higher quality fw cable? any help/advice would be appreciate. thx

-dave

Default Re: high-pitched noise from psu

Hi Dave, and welcome to the DUC. I had this same problem, well, sort of. Switched out the PSU, problem solved. Could be a bad component.

Did you always have this noise or did it just start? If you are sure that the noise is coming from the PSU then I'd exchange it or send it back for a replacement.
