Interesting, I've never seen that paper, and up until yesterday I was an owner of the Saffire 56

The recommended chipset was the
TI XIO2200A and that one that I had was the

TI XIO2213

And it said normally..... I guess it's best to be 100% positive - but....I have had 100% success with that card and my Saffire (FWIW)

Now the Apollo is more picky b/c it's didn't want to run at 800 with that combo card.

Just got the recommended one (from UA) in the mail today and it works a charm

Interesting read Mesa, thanks

I can't find a copyright date in there, so I have no way of knowing exactly how old the paper is.Younger than the Saffire line, but that leaves several years out in the open. Given your first-hand experience to the contrary, I'd say either you were lucky or the paper is outdated. Maybe they fixed whatever was wrong with their interfaces that prevented people from using combo cards.

I would think so. I remember the recommendation always being a TI chipset for my 002.

I haven't noticed much of a difference in Pro Tools performance with an SSD audio drive. For the system and samples, yes.

I run three SSDs - system, audio and video - it is an absolute transformation. Production audio relinking takes seconds, and even on huge sessions you can turn off disk caching and let ProTools have all the ram.

Ok, so I think I am ready to do the build.. I will run PT 11 on windows 7 pro 64 and use my digi 002r, command 8 and an eleven rack.

I have decided on this Siig for firewire:

http://www.siig.com/it-products/fire...port-pcie.html

The PC:

Any thoughts or further recommendations?

Your CPU cooler must have mounting for the LGA-2011 ver. 3 (aka LGA 2011-3 or LGA 2011 v.3 or "R") socket. That Noctua NH12 will not work.
The Thermalright Macho Rev. B has the v.3 mounting kit .... but the cooling tower is huge (but they all are for v.3 CPUs unless you go liquid).

Note that nobody has confirmed that HDN or HDX cards will run in a PCIE slot of an ASUS X99 E-WS mobo. "Plain" PT should run fine on that mobo, and Brandon has confirmed that an HDN card works with a TB link to an ASUS X99 E-WS mobo with an ASUS TB card.

I can report that HDX card(s) do not work in an ASRock X99 WS mobo. There's no TB header on ASRock mobos (like there is on certain ASUS mobos). TS at Avid says the only PCs certified to run HDX cards are Z-series HP PCs.

I'm waiting for a replacement ASUS X99-E WS mobo. First one randomly either booted or failed to POST. Cross your fingers and maybe you'll will the CPU lotto and can OC.
