Default How much ?

I contacted my Sweetwater sales rep yesterday inquiring as to how much an upgrade from PT's 9 to Pt's 11 would cost me. I don't have the money right now and I was just curious. In round figures, $450.00 bucks including the required new iLok . In addition I would need to go up to Win 7,(or 8), 64bit and I haven't priced that out yet. Bottom line, I can't afford it! (Retiree on a fixed income). I was more than happy to upgrade to PT's 9 because I could use it without an Avid I/O but now I'm left stranded with 9 which has been all but abandoned by Avid! After thinking things over I don't think I'm quite ready to chase the carrot again.

I feel your pain, but here's the important question: does 9 do what you need? If it does, I would stay put and make music Moving up only makes sense if you really NEED it. I would be on the lookout for a way to get a hold of 10HD as that would give you lots more than just going from 9 to 10(non-HD). Going to Windows 7 64 bit can give a nice boost in performance, but do you NEED it? If you know about the Dverb2 test, my rig went from(with LE8) a 320 score to 500 with no other change except moving from XP Pro to Win7 x64. If you're getting you stuff done, all is good.

Thanks abee1952 for your practical advice. (9 is working pretty good for me since I now understand more about delay compensation and preferences and right now I have no choice but to stand pat. Question. I thought HD was a move up to big boy status both cost wise and that a qualified Avid interface was necessary. Is this not so?

He was referring to getting an HD license by itself off Ebay or from someone here on the forums.

What he said^^. I run 10HD with my 003 interface. Just finished a mix with 103 audio tracks.

Terry, FWIW I'm still on 8 and I'm getting music done everyday!! Yea, I'd love to upgrade but having two young kids sucks up all my extra income!!! (...but soon I'll be an evil stage parent and be rolling in the dough!!! BWAHAHAHA!!!)

I agree with the above sentiments. There is nothing wrong with PT9 and like the others said, if it's getting things done, stay put.

hehe... the only reason I upgraded from 5.3.1 is because none of the newer plugins, VIs or drum replacer tools would work with the older version. I was perfectly happy with my old rig because it did exactly what I wanted it to do to make a good recording. If it weren't for a small handful of things I wanted to expand on, I would still be using the old system.
I'm still not getting rid of it though.
