Default Connecting 192 IO to Lexicon 300L

Hi,
I am about to incorporate the 300L into my setup (HD4 with 1 - 192IO). I would like to use all 8 analog outs for my stem mixes so I am connecting to the 300L via SPDIF or AES/EBU.

If I am using higher sampling rates (since the 300L does not support >48khz), is there anything I can do to let 192 downsample to 48 or 44.1khz and on the way back I enable Auto Sample Rate conversion on the digital ins ? I know 192 IO does the resampling on digital ins, but what can I do with the outs ?

What does that dropdown menu (something of this sort): Ext Clock Select 44.1khz, or 88.2 khz, or something else do ? Does this govern the sampling rate of my digital outs ?

thanks y'all

Remember that the 300 is a 20-bit device, so you'll need to dither the outputs of the 192 or the bitstream will be truncated if you're working at 24-bit.

Unfortunately, there's no way of connecting the 192 and 300 via a direct AES/EBU connection on sample rates above 48 kHz. One workaround is to have analog in on the 300L and digital out tp the 192, sample rate converted.
There isn't a big difference in sound just using analog i/o. It's might even give you a more "Lexi-like" sound and probably doesn't mean a lot in the grand scheme of your mix.
I've done many test with HD and the 192 and find that a good analog eq or comp on an insert in many cases sound better than a TDM plugin. It certainly offers more coloration.

But if all eight analog outs on your 192 are essential for your work you'll have to invest in a sample rate converter like the RME ADI-8 DD..

Thanks for replying ,
I do indeed need the 8 analog outs for mixdown stems to an external analog mixer. I can print the reverb first then use the printed track to mix but its a bit inconvenient.

Thanks for the ADI 8 DD suggestion. I'll look into it if its not so expensive, since it may be cheaper to just buy another DA converters for my AES outs for my outboard processors.

Anyone knows what the Ext clock Out setting is for in the Hardware Setup ?

Hey Haniel,

are you using an HD 4 witha 4 PCI slot Mac? Any problems with that? or does it work great? Do you still run out of processing power?
