Default VCA and Buses?

I prefer to mix with VCA's, so I created groups and routed those tracks to their appropriate VCA's.

Now I'd like to create buses for these groups (or sub mix tracks within these groups) to place effects on. My question is, do I then route these aux buses to the VCA's as well, or just Solo safe them?

I'm used to how this works in Logic with Track Folders, and confusion grows the more complex the routing gets in Pro Tools.

Any other gotchas I need to worry about with this workflow?

You do NOT need to add the Aux bus to the VCA group settings.
SOLO safe will be fine.

Just an opinion;
1-if you have a group routed thru an AUX, there's no need for a VCA(the AUX fader acts as a sub-master).
2-if you don't need to process the group as a whole, there's no need for the AUX routing(just use a VCA)
3-Solo-safe of the AUX makes perfect sense

VCA's are mostly useful for like when you have a drum buss and you want to LOWER the level of individual tracks before limiter/compressor
