HI, I'm new to the community however I've been using Protools since 1996. Sysaxe anyone? 8mm MEZZO?

I have some older systems and components i'd like to sell. Plus some questions regarding what version of PT will work most reliably on this 2009 Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,4
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP53.00AC.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.49f2.

Will PT 12.8 work? I need a solid set up here at the house on This MBPro while I flip through Job boards Cheer's

Hi, welcome to the community!

I don't think you can run PT11/12 on such an old machine, sorry...

Yeah +1 to that.

4GB is way less than ideal. Recommended 16GB
C2D CPU is too old and tired.
Buss speed too slow.

I would look at a refurbished MBP 2011 - 2012 i7 16GB with internal flash storage and if it has an optical bay i would swap that for a secondary SSD for recordings.

If you can afford a new MBP be adviced that high sierra is still a question mark with PT so take your time with this and get the right machine from the start.

Not going to happen in your system as it stands. You could put more ram in and update the OSX to run PT12.x but you'd be frustrated by the speed (actually the lack thereof). Rather take a look at the refurbs OWC has, especially if you don't need a laptop. I just got a MacPro cheesegrater 5,1 with 3.46 GHz hexcore cpu with 32 gig ram, 1 TB system drive and Toshiba monitor for roughly $1900. Perfectly functional machine. Add your own keyboard & mouse.
