Re: hdx aaxdsp is dying

I might investigate into non avid HD compatible i/.o like an antelope.. they are fanless.. i believe with an orion HD i can get 48 inputs from the one interface and it has 32 analog of it's own on board.. that's probably the way to do it.. fanless, and has a special driver feature to have sample accurate recording with HD. I suppose to start with one of those, 5K, one hdx system 6.5k (all in aud), a chassis 1K S/H. maybe i can get 8k for all my UAD plugins and interfaces and only be out of pocket 4K.. to start with a 1 card system.. hmm.. maybe it's doable after all.. I am so over UAD any way. Yesterday i downloaded a free FET compressor from a company called analog obsession. I prefer it to the expensive UAD ones lol. No i'm not joking. The attack is just *nailed* which is so rare in plugin compressors. Why even bother with UAD if i go HDX.. no need.. i'll get rid of it, all my plugins and my 4 satellites.

Re: hdx aaxdsp is dying
HDX is something I’d love to go to one day, I’m a heavy waves user and have my certain work flow and would need to look into what AAX DSP plugs our available to replace my waves ones.
McDSP do a lot of AAX DSP plugins as well as a few other companies I’ve look at. What AAX DSP plugins are missing from are arsenal that are available EQ’s? ......Avid, McDSP, Sonnox Compressors? ......McDSP, Avid Reverbs? .....Revibe,Space Delays?.....McDSP Effects??? What have we got for this one So what are people missing? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: hdx aaxdsp is dying
Stop it. You'll set them off again!
Seriously, if you are a heavy Waves user why the need to change? If you are running out of steam then get a SoundGrid Server. Stephen

2. Character eq’s 3. Reverbs In all fairness though, it is really a force of habit of always going for a dsp plug-in vs a native. Muscle memory I guess. When I need a native plugin on a track that has dsp plugin on it, it is fairly seamless for the most part. I guess I trust aax dsp plugins more for accurate delay comp reporting. For craps and giggles I wanted to see how well it would go if I tracked thru a uad plugin. I had to lower buffer as if I were on a native rig to either 64 or 128 to do it where it was playable but it worked. It was a guitar efx chain. 1. Trim 2. Cla 1176 3. H delay 4. Valhalla verb 5. Uad la 2a 6. Either Phoenix or hornet harmonics All native...except trim and maybe Phoenix. Not sure if I would dream of doing this on another system including UAD |

Not running out of steam and would never invest in a soundgrid system. Just thinking of future options to stay current. At the mo I really love my TDM Rig, but we all always want the latest and greatest Is it recommended to have a 2 card HDX system at least to get a decent track count?? Re: hdx aaxdsp is dying
I have friends who are very happy with 1 card systems and a couple who switched from HDX to HD native because they were almost never recording more than 12 in.

Re: hdx aaxdsp is dying
Ah, I see...so your asking about DSP power vs TDM.
I don’t know I would have to research the DUC to find out for sure. But from what I remember they said a HDX card is equivalent to HD3 in terms of power.

i was running out of voices and sometimes time slots when i was on hd6. also because hd6 was on a 32bit system I constantly ran into ram issues when using native plugins. Because all of the issues are gone I can run aaxdsp and aax native pretty seamlessly with no worries of overloading delay compensation or ram. Also i am noticing dsp sharing between chips from different companies such as plugin alliance and sonnox. Dverb is not more efficient…but If you use native power I just saw a benchmark test where pro tools expert dudes ran 120 native dverbs + 200 booms + i think there was 120 eq3 as well…all natively without touching hdx. I say all this to say that a single hdx card plus native processing will run circles around a hd6 tdm rig...if for no other reason for the extra voices alone and 64 bit architecture. it is just a more powerful and stable system as a whole. if i get an extra card it will be for voice count head room, i/o connections for hardware inserts and summing. I loved my tdm rig and still do but I have a fresh perspective since I just left it. i milked it for as much as i could with even trying to use vep to tap into 64 bit plugins. hdx really is the best of both worlds with the lowest latency and highest amount of delay comp of any system…it really is worth it. |
