Upgrading to HD Questions
I bought myself a LE system about 4 years ago. After doing the weekend warrior recordings, I finally feel that I'm ready to upgrade to an HD system. So my questions are this.
I have a Mac G5 that still cranks fairly well so I'm not sure if I should just go ahead and load it up with ram and memory and upgrade or if I should just sell all my LE and computer stuff and buy a new mac pro that I know will last me at least 5 years. I will use some plugs but for the most part will be running hardware into the computer. I have started doing a lot more mixing (see fixing [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]ty mixes) so I definitely want a computer that will be able to eat up 30-40 tracks with a few plugs no problem. Can I accomplish this with my old computer or should I go ahead and pull the trigger on a new computer? It just seems that the PCIe will be around for a long time and I just don't want to have to fool with the computer after I get the HD system. So what are the pros and cons of doing either? |
