Default HD USERS BE AFRAID - VERY AFRAID

Ok, I am proud HD user.. just musing today that I was amazed that in this day and age we are still using TDM systems and its better. Native is still not up to it..

THEN>>>

one of our newer composers here just got a hot new MAC PRO. I said we should do a plug in power test, thinking it would make me feel good, but no!
He can on his 48 stereo tracks 240 instances of WAVES SSL channel!! You press play.. no problems.
My HD 3 (one accel card) can get about 40 or so instances... thats ALL!

I am feeling silly....

Must be time for a un-handicapped naive pro tools system digi?

all the best

You did not say which Mac you were using- the Intel Machines are very cool, but do you have time to wait for all of the TDM plugins you are using to get updated to work? What about getting into a MacPro with your TDM hardware- then you have nice i/o, functional TDM plugins + tons of Native horsepower.

just a thought..

Native has problems when the low hardware buffer settings are being used. Low latency of TDM systems still cannot be touched. And then there's this thing about reliablity and stability... sure, native systems can do a lot, but it's still native processing and has its own risks.

Last time I checked it wasn't the amount of instantiations that made a hit record.... The composition and performance is all you need. If you have "Mediocre" performers you'll need equalizers and dynamics to make up for "Mistakes" - just get it right in the box and you're half way there...

John Lennon made Imagine with NO plug-ins and we're still enjoying that tune today...

Personally I HATE when people live under the illusion that they can make a hit record just cuz they can instantiate 240 ssl plugs and still be able to play.... Do you think waves or apple will get a GRAMMY for being able to do that... Do you think people buying you records give a rats az whether you used 200 waves or other plug-ins... Get real dog and go to gear-sluts and whack off with them.

My dearest 25 Ghosts,

No one mentioned hit records in this thread, not does any one in this thread mention or imply than hit records have anything to do with plugins.

Why do so many of your posts have such a condescending, nasty tone?

why be afraid? Embrace it. It was your own snootiness that got you in trouble in the first place, no offense. To me it means I can buy a single card card system next time they update HD or whatever. It's good news.

This has nothing to do with hit records: it is all about power, how much can a system handle?

And PT is not only used for music, what about post production, film mixing?
