That last version of Pro Tools that will support Mbox 1 is 8.0.1. There will be no further development for it after that version.

I have been a member of this site for along time and just bought a MacBook with snow leopard to use with my mbox. Now your telling me that I won't be able to run mbox on snow leopard? You should have at least made it compatible with SL before you pulled the plug. Now I have another piece of worthless hardware to sit by my digi 001.
I am forced to buy more hardware? Are you saying that it won't work at all?

Does this mean that there won't be a SL compatible Core Audio driver issued for the 1st generation Mbox as well?

Now, what would be their reason for doing THAT?

It's pretty obvious it does.

The reason it was dropped was that the engineering and testing necessary to get it working properly in Snow Leopard was far too significant - it would have taken engineers and testers off of new and current product development, something we can't afford at the moment for a device that's over 7 years old.

We didn't want to do it, but in a very competitive business climate, difficult decisions about allocation of resources necessary to keep a company afloat are sometimes necessary.

We do still offer hardware exchanges from the original Mbox to 003 systems:
