Thanks Chris :) My Room is treated with acoustic panels made from rock wool. What you have said about the sub makes sense if you can’t hear what’s going on how can you make adjustments. This is where my HS8M lets me down I think even though the spec says the low end goes down to 38hz

So a sub would be a good investment????

I would stay away frombuying a Sub as that will introduce you to a ****ttstorm of new issues unless you have built a real studio with the placements of bass traps in corners etc.

I would buy a better set of Monitors as those HS8's are pretty sad actually. Stompy and boxy sounding and no way near any NS10's as people think they are.

Get a nice pair with a 10" bass element instead and use the Yamaha monitors as Coffee tables in the studio lounge

I would put my money on Genelec 8050's or Adam with a 8 or 10 inch bass.

You can find Genelecs for good prices used so scrap those HS8's and get something real. They have spoken and now you hear why they aren't great.

For as good as the Yamaha MSP5's were the HS versions were a disappointment. When I wanted to replace my MSP5's I got a pair of JBL LSR308's and I'm happy as a clam with them. They're no Genelecs but I can do work on them that translates well so far. Good clean bass that balances well with the highs out of the tweeter. And the soundstage is really nice.

Gave the MSP5's to my wife for her Mac Mini where we do all our web surfing and Photoshop work and she couldn't be happier. Of course that means Harp Twins/Enya/Gregorian at fairly loud levels but at least it ain't distorted

Another vote for JBL LSR308's. I actually prefer them over the Gennies . If you work on the JBls, though, just be ready: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMzd40i8TfA

We have a set of the LSR308's because they were less than €300 so had to try them out BUT compared to a Genelec monitor setup you haven't mixed in a 5.1 Genelec 1032 room... the LSR308 has IMNSHO Very sharp highs and a bit muddy low end. We tried in different very expensively treated rooms here with floating floors and built by an English team. I could be persuaded to agree that the 308's sounded ok in a room that cost over 50.000 euro here but if the OP hasn't got a room like that he will keep having the same issues. Those monitors sound way to HiFi and the "flat" baseline is not flat at all.

I would say the LSR305 sound better than the bigger ones. And buying a cheapo option instead of keep using the HS8 wont make much difference for the OP.

I would suggest taking some courses and buy a lot of books on these topics and learn how the HS8 work and how your room is treated. Throwing up a few squares here and there is not a good idea, and as said the ARC stuff is gimmicky as .... (*)

Dan Lancaster the guy who mixed the latest Bring Me The Horizon album has a studio which I would say is quite well treated but not perfect (I might be wrong though) he used to mix on Rokit VXT speakers but brought some Barefoot speakers (£10k) after getting the job to mix that BMTH album. You can hear how his mixes have changed since he’s had those speakers, so I get all the advice on getting better speakers.

I can’t justify £10k on speakers though lol

Very few of us can. I know I sure can't so it's make do with what can afford.

I did (Genelec surround system) but I still think people are not treating their rooms properly and if the budget is sub thousand I'm sure room treatment gives better results than changing speakers.

I agree. I was told the same years ago and thought it can’t make that much of a difference. 4 yrs ago I properly treated my room then bought Genelec 8250s. Wish I would have done that 10 years earlier.
