Default Mic choice?

I'm thinking of buying a NeumanKM184. Is this a good choice? For acoustic guitar etc.

Hey mate,

for acoustic guitar I would recomend a akg C414b. I've got awesome results with this mic. Sure, it's expensive but it does the bis really well. If you've got the funds, I reckon thats the one to go for! The numark is cool, but check the mic sites, the feq response on the AKG is much more suitable for what your doing. hope this helps,.

Do you meen a 414B-ULS, or a AKG 414B-TLII. Personally I find the AKG 451B the best for acoustic guitar, out of the three mentioned its the least boomy and picks up transients the fastest and in generall sounds the best (to my ears) for an acoustic, also its good to pick up a pair cause there also excellent overhead mics. And also a plus, for the price of one 414 (either one) you can buy a pair of 451's.

The Neumann is a very good acoustic mic, and last time I checked, a lot cheaper than an AKG. As an all around mike, the 414 would be better, but for acoustic, you may like that little guy.

the 184 is our first choice for acoustic guitar. I sometimes use a royer 122, for a darker/warmer sound, if that is what you want. highly recommended.

I agree. I generally prefer the sound of a small diaphragm condenser on acoustic guitar.

To me, a 414B-ULS on acoustic guitar sounds boomy - sure to please the Ovation type crowd, but not what I like to hear at all.

As far as which small condenser, I love the km184. It sounds great on acoustic guitar.
