Default please tell me this will work, even if only in my imagination

okay. i'm looking for a cheap way to add the 2 spdif tracks. i found an old roland ad converter, but, it's only capable of 8-bit, 44khz conversions. what would happen if i tried to use this in a 24-bit, 44khz session? would my 001 blow up? i might enjoy watching it burn.....

thanks man. i guess i should have known that, but what about the sound. will it sound that out of place? i'd mainly be using it to add room mics to a drum mix. i'm just curious because i think i can pick this thing up for about $50. anyone have cheap ideas for a/d converters? i've seen one made by ART that does 24-bit, up to 96Khz conversions for about $150. but i just don't have the money. any ideas? thanks a lot.

Don't waste your money on an 8 bit converter. It would be FAR better to save your current funds, save up some more and get something you'll really be able to use - even if t is going to cost $150 instead of $50. IMO, no one is going to want that 8 bit converter when you go to sell it, so you'll never get your money back out of it. So your 24 bit converter will, in the end, cost $200 instead of $150.

point taken. i can't help but try to be ridiculously frugal. i'll probably just end up saving until i can afford the octo-pre, or whatever it's called. thanks for the advice.

J.FO,
Maybe a cheap SB card, used? A Lot of them have s/pdif I/O's. You might be able to run a soft synth on one, or Sound Fonts...

it will work - the extra 16 bits will be filled with zeros and 8 bit sounds pretty grainy!
