Default Cymbal Rolls

I do alot of orchestration, arranging and recording for theater companys. The one sound I can't seem to get are good cymbal rolls. Mallets, sticks, rods, etc....I've sub-divided grids step writing in midi using crescendos and decrescendos but it really never sounds quite right. Any suggestions on how to create a cymbal roll without actually recording one. Loops, Librarys, wav, etc. Thanks for the help!

Hello...percussionist here...the best way to get a clean cymbal roll if you're recording it yourself is to use soft yellow yarn mallets with narrow fiberglass rods designed for playing vibes & xylophones. Any good music store that supplies instruments for school bands ought to be able to come up with a pair. And don't stick the mic to close to the cymbal....

Check out soundideas.com...or let me know if you need a few more besides the one sent to you. I have quite a few of em too. allan @southwestrecording.com
