AGREED! This thread is the second longest one on this forum (the longest being the initial announcement of the S3). This issue is also the joint most popular on Ideascale. You'd think that if Avid was interested in satisfying their customers, they'd at least make a comment on it.

It's also one of the largest threads in the Dock forum.

Avid! Can we get a reply about this ?

As previously posited, there must be some reason that AVID are avoiding any comment or feedback on this issue.

Is a shame, as it really tarnishes a potentially wonderful product.

100% agree!

When I have time... I'm thinking to do a video maybe for Pro Tools Expert that outlines the ridiculous common sense missing no brainer features from our control surfaces and highlight the stupid things that occur that mess up our creative workflow everyday because they don't spend any time actually thinking about how to make these controllers intuitive for the user.

S3 users. If you hold down 'command' on mac (CTRL pc) while you are using the encoders, does this make the response linear ?

Seems to on the Dock.

will try that again tonight, but I don't believe that does anything at ll. On any other console holding ctrl triggers fine tuning. As a matter of fact, on the S3, under the ctrl button is printed: "Fine".
So this is how it should behave.

Imo it would even be more ergonomical to switch between fine and coarse (or linear/non-linear even) by pushing the knob. After all, right now pushing the knob resets the parameter to its default setting, but both (!) ALT+knob AND SHIFT+knob do exactly the same thing already. Besides, it seems to me one would alter between fine and coarse far more often than one would reset paramaters to their default.

I was thinking exactly the same for Youtube earlier this week. Since there's not much on Youtube already on the S3, that would certainly boost its sales...

some things to include for sure (got a longer list at home)
- no visual feedback on automation modes (biggest showstopper imo)
- poor knob behavior
- S3 layout resetting whenever you drag a clip from outside PT into PT (also big showstopper imo)
- VCA spill not recalling last setting in (standard) Multi Master Mode
- poor fader resolution
- softkey colour coding not working
- totaly useless touch strip, best to disable since one constantly accidentally hits it by accident
- ridiculous placement of sel buttons
- no access to memlocs
- I/O routing config not suited for larger sessions

Oh dear, that's a long list already..

C'mon Avid! Update the S3 (and Dock) with linear knob control!

Just an observation, but I have noticed, it does seem to be 'more' linear in LogicPro 10.3 than PTHD12.7. Has anyone else noticed this?

This raises the question.... does the feel/acceleration of the knobs get dictated by the Eucon software itself, or by the individual DAW software that is being used?
