Default -7401 Help!

I am working on a large (for me) Christmas arrangement. Mid day, out of the blue, every time I hit Play... I get a -7401 error and PT will not play. Then the computer crashes.

For the record it worked fine for two days and the session wasn't even closed then reopened. Now none of the 2 days prior will play either.

All normal troubleshooting followed. I do have a Magma Chassis and PT 7.4.2 cs1 (cs didnt help)

This could be any number of things - corrupted plug-ins, corrupted audio files, audio files with incorrect permissions, etc.

Try removing all plug-ins from the plug-ins folder except for stereo mixer, trash prefs, restart and test again.

Another test - open the session, do a 'Save Copy In' and copy it to a different location, including all media. Close current session and open new one.

Let us know if either of these help at all.

Here's what I have done so far today...

1) trashed all prefs.
2) Reinstalled Pro Tools.
3) fixed disk permissions
4) ran disk warrior and tech tool pro
5) did Save As a Copy... that session didn't play either
6) Opened up 5 versions of the session that worked (I usually save a version after each inst is tracked... "bass done" "gtr done" etc. And did Save As... No dice
7) I made a new session, imported tracks one by one to see which crashed the session. I did this 5 times. Each time, a different track caused the crash.
8) I disabled all plugins in session... no help
9) I removed plugins from plugin folder, then added back one at a time. Did that 3x. Each time, a different plugin caused the crash.

I managed somehow to get it to play for like 5 seconds, then I got a "Overload" warning. Even though there were no RTAS plugins anymore. Then spinning beach ball and I needed to force quit.

Digi, any known issues or plugs with this? I understand a session can go corrupt. But Every version, on the main drive and Backup server is highly unlikely. On another band's stuff, when I hit play, It plays for like 5 seconds, then locks in a playback loop, then PT quits.

Any ideas? I rebooted the chassis too.

Are you using the same drive for all tests?

If so, try a different drive. It may be a bad drive.

Have you tried running Digitest? Does this occur only with this session?

It may be a loose card or flex cable as well - try reseating cards and cables.

Might have found at least one prob. TL SPace.

Put it in the plugins folder? -7401 and no playback

take it out... playback runs...

is TL Space a no go? Or is mine just corrupt?

OK
definitely TL Space is a culprit.

Now here's the rub, Do I just chuck the plugin? Then reinstall? What about all my impulses?

Do I have to redownload/search the net for the impulses?

ok i know i am talking to myself. but in the interset of helping someone else out...

I FIXED THE SESSION.

I opened the cruddy session. I removed ALL the TL Space instances... there were 3 or 4 on Aux tracks.

The session still crashed (even though TL Space was gone). So I quit Pro Tools, then relaunched the session, sans TL Space Instances on my Aux Tracks. The session played ok.

Then I added TL Space BACK ONTO The offending channels... and it worked!!!! I closed the session, then reopened it to make sure. It was ok!

I guess the actual instances of the plugin were bad, not necessarily the plugin.

oh well. so far so good.

Strange! Glad it's working for you again, though!

Sometimes there are things that happen that defy explanation....
