Default ProTools 6, Audiomedia 3 and CPU\'s

Hi

I'm wondering whether ProTools 6 will work on my upgraded computer. It's an Beige G3 upgraded to a G4 (PowerForce G4 ZIF from powerlogix | PowerPC 7410 @ 533MHz).

According to Digidesign Pro Tools 6 systems are not supported with the older Blue & White G3s or the PCI Graphics G4s, only the AGP graphics models.
Is this because of from which generation the CPU is (PowerPC 7400 or PowerPC 7410) - or something else?

Thanks John - that's usefull information.
Seems that I'll be better off sticking with PT 5.1.1 in OS 9 till I get a new computer though. (Also this could explain why everything here is just a liiiiitle bit slower in OSX).

It's because Quartz, the graphics system in OS X, is so CPU intensive that it places massive strains on the graphics card to try and lessen the drain on the CPU. This in turn places a massive strain on the PCI bus.

Just search for some recent posts from a guy with a heavily upgraded beige G3 and another guy with a b & w G3, it's not good for any of us with older models.

It's 100% apple's fault, they could have added more options to reduce the overhead of graphics in the OS, it seems like you need a dual G4 just to get smooth performance with it from what a lot of people have said about PT 6 under OS X.
