MIDI recorded from older Keyboard
I have an old Ensoniq SD1 Leonora’s with some old sequences
That I am recording one track at a time into Pro Tools 2019. I don’t seem to be able to controls the keyboard for PY with MTC, so that is the reason for recording each track into PT with a session at the same tempo. The MIDI is off of course and I was curious if anyone had tips for doing something similar? I tried converting MIDI track to samples and used beat detective, but I think I am funneling about, even though I think I got my first track working and matching the grid...the tempo from using best detective is way too fast and I will look at how to lower the tempo via the tempo map. Anyway, this seems like a painful process and wondered if anyone else had better methods to get outdated hardware sequencer sequences into Pro Tolls and match the session MIDI? Thanks, I went through the Manual on Beat detective and remember why I gave up using it years ago...smile. Running a Mac 2010 pro and an MTV USB MIDI interface and Pro Tools 2019 Native. Jeff

Re: MIDI recorded from older Keyboard
Getting PT to follow MTC(midi time code) might be a solution. How many tracks are you trying to save? Is there any alternative to what you're doing(and failing with) like; downloading midi files, playing the parts into Melodyne(Stand-alone version) and using Melodyne to adjust tempo to a consistent number, so you could then import into a PT session with that exact tempo setting? Does the keyboard have an EXPORT function?

Re: MIDI recorded from older Keyboard
Does the synth produce either Beat Clock or MTC?
PT could follow that. |

Re: MIDI recorded from older Keyboard
I tried MTC and the keyboard doesn't have capabilities in that area. I can live with getting a few tracks or even one track recorded to Pro Tools.
I did have some luck converting a recorded MIDI track to samples and then recording the old keyboard track into ProTools. Pro Tools was set to wait for note and had conductor on...strange enough, Pro Tools started recording without wait for note, and when I played the track on the keyboard sequencer, Pro Tools adjusted the tempo a bit and most of the track lined up. Hate that I have no idea how that worked. The track was perfectly aligned for 20 measures and then drifted. I was able to quantize the rest and an the track worked...and I didn't have to mess with Beat Detective this time. I am reading, looking at manual and videos and still feel like I am doing something the wrong way.
