I guess I am daft. . . I don't see what existing customers get that already own a bunch of different individual McDSP Plugins. What am I missing?

So v4 isn't PT9 compatible?

You're not daft. The ones getting most bang for their money are Emerald bundle owners. They get the 6030 package for $100 off compared to an individual purchase, a current version compatible with the latest and greatest, and some minor enhancements for the old v4 plugins.

McDSP users that owns individual plugins, like myself, doesn't get all that much. We have the opportunity to upgrade single plugins for $29 each, and for that we get an updated version just like the Emerald owners. What those enhancements and algorithm tweaks are, I don't know.

I really like McDSP and their plugins and I also do understand that we need to support them time to time to keep them in business, so I will be updating my plugs of course. Also I believe they have their reasons behind not allowing resale of the plugs. I think they have had too many Massive Pack plugins floating (that also originally were not allowed to be parted and sold but were anyways) around bringing down the aftermarket value of their great plugins.
One tweak that I know of that should be in there is that in MC2000 the threshold should go lower now. At least I have been asking for this alot. Using it live on VENUE the V4 thresholds on that plug were not able to go low enough for HF band for example. I'm sure there are many other requests that have been built into the new version. Also regarding V4 and Pro Tools 9 compatibility, I had small installation problems installing V4 on my new Pro Tools HD system on PC but after that they did work as expected. I don't know about macs tough.

I've always been a big supporter of McDSP but they promised the 6030 in May, since then we've had Pro Tools 9 and UAD announced so i can't help but think that McDSP will no longer be something special.

I've also always praised McDSP for allowing us to transfer our own licenses but now they have followed suite with Sonnox, Waves etc i'm not so sure.

I agree with the others, i'm not seeing the benefits for the money, do we really need another software comp, i have Comp Bank and retro comp???

And $300 for AU support, GUI updates and 1 plugin. Let's no forget here, McDSP are pretty much the only big fish that developed only for RTAS and it's not like the price reflected this.

Ummmmm, not convinced.

It's true.
I actually find what they've done with v5 almost offensive.
They open up their customer base by at least 100%, give one plug-in a facelift, and add $200 to the price of an Emerald Bundle...even though Emerald no longer contains Chrome Tone or Synth One (admittedly, both never were extremely popular), and add $100.00 to the price of a Classic Pack.

Then take away the ability to transfer between users, and merely add another in a long line of compressors.

Throw in Mac only until Q1 of 2011.

Unimpressed, and I'm an avid user of their products.

Amen.

I'll struggle along with my v4 McDSP stuff for the time being. Thank God THOSE can still be transferred.

Everyone is bugging out about whether or not they can transfer their license - it seems none of you actually want to own the McDSP - you just wanna flip it! I like the Filterbank and Analog Channel plugs and wouldn't sell them anyway.

And all the McDSP I have here does TDM. Not sure what that other poster was saying, or if RTAS-only is a new thing. It'll work RTAS or TDM. And Waves let's you transfer - same erroneous post above - I sold a Platinum TDM bundle not too long ago. So not sure what you're going for, there

I can't speak for everyone, but I like the ability to sell plugs simply because my needs change over time, or something else comes out that does the job better or easier, ect.

I don't think anyone wants to turn around and flip V.5, they just want to know that 3 years from now, if they decide they no longer need them, they can get a little money for them.
