Additionally, last test I used 48 audio tracks rather than 32, and when duplicating the tracks, I would do 10 at a time rather than duplicate one, record enable, duplicate one, record enble, etc., etc.

So now that the test was run correctly, I got 385 Dverbs on PT 8 cs3 (Mbox 2), new DVERB.

I know having those 2 bios setting probably affected the test in a positive way.

Also, If I remember correctly, don't the firewire Digi interfaces perform better than the USB interfaces?

Awesome... think the performance increase over win XP can be attributed to the increase of ram available to pro tools? I can't wait to try oh ess X with 12 GB ram!

Unlikely. D-verb doesn't use much ram at all. It either more efficient OS (probably) or more efficient PT code on the oh ess X side (quite possibly)

This really puts @pple's $3299 8 core Nehalem 2.26 Xeons to shame. I still have no theory about why that is though

Talking Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Will you guys ever change the Dverb test to make 64 "the standard" test buffer setting??

I will search through this thread to see what you are getting at 64. I'm looking to build one and never want to change from 64 (recording and mixing), if possible.

thanks.

Sweet. I usually get mix sessions from 30-50 tracks. I'll add auxes and use some as group busses, others for efx returns(reverbs and delays mostly). Eq and compression either on each track or group busses. other efx here and there. I never go overboard (on plugins per track).

i would probably be fine at 128, but i figure instead of worrying about it, just bump it up to 512 and keep a workin

Well actually the weird part is that I was running @ 64 just fine(CPU @ about 65%) but every since I did a Repair Disk on my OS b/c my plug & play stop working, I now get little crackles every once in a while... (w/the particular session I described above) so @ 128 its fine... @ 64 its fine but 2/3 times in the song I'd get that... Nevertheless, it still beats an __3 rig

edit: HERE is the session (video) I'm speaking of... Did this for Shane b/c we were discussing back & forth about midi on large sessions etc. it's sorta long & I didn't wanna post it on youtube so download @ ur leisure only if U'd like...& on here I U will see I have it going @ 64samples but the more time went on I had to bump it to 128

yeah it is... & I mean I was reallllly upset when I had to go to 128 b/c I've been set on 64 since I got it... Like I said, for whatever reason, Its giving me little pops here & there ever since I did a OS repair last week.. Before then, It hadn't come off 64 even with those type of sessions... But heyyy, I definitely couldn't have done that on my old Core2duo
