Eric, just curious ... how did you join the forum in January 1970?

Was that when TDM's design was first mapped out ;-)

wrappers always compromise satiability...especially on Snickers

In G-Force's case, it is not head in the sand unwillingness, it is simply that they are a very small creative team, and the last two years have been pent porting their existing portfolio to 64bit versions, which will be released shortly. (I'm playing with mac betas of these at the moment!)

They have decided that it's now time to work creatively on something new. After that urge has been sated, they may revisit the aax question, but for small companies, the availability of a viable aax wrapper would be a godsend for them.
You can rewire all of these through something like reaper.

Who cares?! That should be done at the users own risk not Avid's, and we all know that! Besides, you shouldn't ever do something like this without testing it first, if it doesn't live up to your standards then don't use it in front of a client.

I guarantee Avid won't allow it, hell it's a miracle FXPansion was ever allowed to port VST's to RTAS, but that adaptor was buggy as sin. AAX is a money-train for Avid and big plug-in vendors, who would vote against it. Ironically, they'll be the same companies who complain about their plug-ins being torrented en-masse a few months down the line because they are the only available plug-ins that work with the DAW, and people aren't made of money.

I put my money on Avid not allowing any VST/RTAS > AAX Converters.

Like many others who are too afraid to say it, I hope that TransVST will start circling on the internet 'black market' and we'll be able to pick it up that way.

It's such a spiteful tack to take as well - right now is when Avid's customers *need* a decent, low-priced wrapper to tide them over until Spectrasonics, Camel, REFX, NI etc etc get up to speed.

Note the same spin that it's "for your own good", it's for a more "authentic experience" etc doesn't apply to the $300 VEPro or Nomad's Magma.

I've seen some talk about Nomad's Magma software, it's expensive and it looks fairly limited... it also doesn't factor in delay compensation :/ What's VEPro? More importantly, will they load the Waves VST's into Pro Tools with minimal hassle?

I am [_] < This close to saying sod it and buying the latest version of Cubase. I'm right at the end of my tether with Avid now, all this hype for nothing. A company does something that the users actually WANT and Avid pulls the plug on it.

If I wasn't getting free student upgrades I'd have opened the PT11 trial and laughed. It's no faster than 10... and the amount of *new features* they listed which turn out to be HD-only features is ridiculous. I got a couple of fancy meters and offline bounce. Big deal.

Magma'll load Waves; Google VEPRO, there's a demo but you *can't have it unless you buy another piece of software from them*.
Bizarre.

I've got the Cubase 7 demo sat here on my Mac - incredibly efficient, input monitoring, track freeze, hasn't crashed once and loads *all* my plugs.

Avid has repositioned itsself to ditch the hobbyist/low-end market - hence the wrapper / CPTK / student upgrade debacles; they can treat them like sh*t as there're no longer the target group.

The end result is people like me checking out the competition and finding it's...really frelling good.

I fail to see how AVID is treating Students like **** as you claim?

4 years of free upgrades? NO Pro Audio Software Co. has done this, to my knowledge? Having to wait up to 2-3 weeks for a FREE upgrade that adds up to quite a bit of savings is hardly what I would call ****.

If you really think Cubase is the bees knees... good bye! Have fun with all **** Steinberg has to offer too.
