Default Old 002 Rack What are my options

Hi Everyone

I have an old 002 rack, pro tools 6.4 legitimate user. I bought it back around 2007 in Australia. Now back living in Ireland and dug it out the other day with my authorisation codes.

Guys what are my options. I have a pc with windows 7.

Can I run any pro tools software higher than 6.4 on a windows 7 machine. If so do i need an authorisation code to use upgraded software?
I used to run it on an old XP computer which has died a death on me.

Hoping for some advice
Thanks

I don't think there's any Avid upgrade path for a version older than 9. You could look for a "used" license, I'd recommend getting at least 11 when it became 64bit.

To be honest the whole setup is quite old. While I'm sure you can get something working, Windows 7 isnt even getting security updates anymore, so be sure it is offline.

Here's the requirements for the current version of Pro Tools: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/c...m-Requirements

The newest PT that supports Win 7 64bit is 12.8.3. 32bit is 11.3.2: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...tibility-Chart

Hi, welcome to the community.

002 should work with the latest PT (although officially unsupported) but as said you have no software upgrade path available. If you choose to buy a new PT license however, chances are good you can keep using your interface. With that said, it is almost 20 years old. Hardware holds its value much better than software.

Thanks joel

1. Where would i get a used licensed to buy?
2. I recently saw a 002 console desk online for cheap. Any advantages to buying that over the 002 rack?

Thanks

If you're looking to replace the rack, I wouldnt go with something that is just as old and unsupported. THere are a lot of great interfaces arround $500 that are getting driver updates and full warranty.

As for used license, I personally would stick to the Buy and Sell section here, not that it is a guarantee, but I feel I'd have less chance of getting a pirate license: http://duc.avid.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12

PT6.4 doesn't work on Windows 7/ LE8.0.5 is the oldest version that should work. I also recommend moving forward. PT11 is a decent spot that should be affordable. The 002 should be fine(assuming it hasn't been a victim of the old power harness issue) In any case, you're going to also need a newer iLok(version 2 or 3) (PT dumped the old authorization codes when version 9 was released).
