Default Please forgive (RECORDING LEVELS)

Did a session on my new setup running 2020. I though I was recording at the right levels not thinking to much about it and hoovering in the yellow in the new metering.

Well I opened it up in PT10 to use an old plugin and the levels from 2020 were really super hot and almost clipping.

Please forgive me and I know I should have kept it around -18db.

Thank you very much folks, but can you recommend a good level in 2020 ?

-20dBFS and Venue metering from settings (K14 for master faders).

24bit WAV has 144dB dynamics so unless your converters have better spec than 124dB dynamics you gain absolutely nothing with hotter levels than -20dBFS.

Hi,

Forgive my ignorance here but how do you set it to -20dbFS? How do you configure it?

Hi, I got myself a Clarity M from TC electronics! Great unit at an amazing price. I don’t like using plugins for metering. I find they take up too much space. And I like the fact that when I look at my meters, I know where to look because they are always in the same spot!

Thank you folks tremendously. I was truly thrown overboard when I saw those level in pre-fader mode (WOWEE). I"ll have to adjust for sure. My convertors are not that good. DIGI003 & Digimax FS.

Personally, I rarely use Post-fade metering

Would need to know what metering standard you're using in PT2020, but if you want direct translation just set your meters to Pro Tools Classic in Prefs -> Meters. This will give you the metering you're used to.
