Any conforming software, or manual conform can "jackup" the automation.

If there are no break points on the B side of the edit, the automation is going to get jacked up.

While reconformer is certainly the cheapest, it has its limitations.

VK is ultra expensive and I've had it crash on me with large conform sessions.

Conformalizer has been the most reliable for me. And it is a reasonable price point as well.

Thanks for the urban dictionary link. I had no idea such a thing even existed. More entertaining than Debrtett's Etiquette or Burke's Peerage...

Carry on

I think Chris is talking about what happens when new material is inserted in a reel.

if you're conforming by simple inserts/deletes in shuffle mode, your automation in the inserted bits will be similar to the material from before.
in the conformalizer/VK/Editrace method, you get automation (usually) at it's default value, which is often quite different to what you want.

I have a trick I use to quickly clean out these areas of virgin automation:
1. if not already, group all tracks (or all relevant)
2. double click in the "hole" with the i-beam to select that new area
3. edit menu - cut special - all automation

the automation will now be gliding from the value before the insert, to the value after the insert - usually the same value anyway but very handy if there's been reordering of shots too.

AFAIK, this is the only real difference in the automation conform between the old-skool conform method and the conformalizer way.
Keen to hear any thoughts to the contrary.

cheers,
justin

Hi All!

I´m a complete newbie when it comes to edl´s and conforming.
I´m about to mix a 1 hour 5.1 "quiz show" series, where I´ll be getting edl´s from the editors. I.e getting the isotracks into Protools.
Since they cut picture with a stereo mix down.

Is there a difference in the amount of time these conforming software´s need to do their tasks? A colleague of mine claimed that what Titan does in 3 seconds, V.K needs an hour to do the same.

I´ve just begun reading about conforming, have been mixing tv for 7 years now, but never had the need for this until now.

Maggots Conformalizer seems to be my pick when searching the duc, but will read more before I decide.

Thanks in advance! This forum is truly a great one!

Default Re-conforming software?

Arvid
Conforming location sound and Re-conforming a project to a new cut are similar but yet very different. But it can be confusing as the words used are similar...

Yes, I realize that my question was a bit vague, since I´m still in the learning process d;-)

There are not changes to the picture, just the location audio that needs to be comformed.

I run ljudligans old studio in Danvikstull by the way, if you´re familiar with it.

sounds like you wanna look at Titan or the field recorder matching features in PT.

conformalizer, editrace, VK etc are all designed to recut according to a new picture cut.

A little off-topic but doesn't Assemblerator is quite the same as Titan ?
It's strange that you didn't mention it.
