Default Please check these specs.

I just ordered this HP Z800 workstation today.
Could you please take a look at the specs and tell me if it would work for HD2?

I'm not going with the Xeson X series as Digi recommends, they are still very expensive, and I know about Win7 but I'll keep my current computer and overall setup until I've thoroughly tested the new one.

Basically it's dual Xeon E5520 with 6g's of ram and an ATI Video card and two 500g hard drive. I will also add the other two hard drives I currently am using. They're 1T each.

Thank you

GD

...and for that amount of money you NEVER looked at a Mac?

That's one thing I've discovered. We have 6 PT rigs on Macs and one on PC. By the time we get the PC to where it will actually run ProTools, we've spent just as much money, or more. Then we have to deal with the "New device found, looking for driver" window everytime we plug something in.

IMHO, the two OSs are very similar EXCEPT for the continual updates with Windows.

Our PC system is on an HP xw8600 and, by the time we were done with it, cost well over $6500. The ONLY reason I went with a windows machine was because of space limitations in our truck and I didn't want to deal with an expansion chassis. Other than that, if I had to do it over again, I would've installed a Mac.

The price difference doesn't matter. For me this is not a competition between Mac and Windows.
It's a decision of what I like and what I don't like.
I don't like Mac!!! That's all there is to it.
Why would I buy something I don't like?
Especially something I'll sit with for hours every day.
I don't do it with anything else so why should I do it with computers?
In my experience Mac doesn't run any better or is any more stable than Windows
I have no problems with Windows updating it self, as a matter of fact I don't even know about it.
If this computer had cost 10.000 I still would have wanted a Windows OS.

My experience with Win vs Mac has been very much like what so many of the Windows people write about on this page:
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/post-...196-pt-pc.html

Also the sixth post down in the link describes a situation that also happened to me a few years ago.
A Digi rep once told me they like Windows more.
The reasons were the same as "Geert van der Berg" mentions in the post.

I totally discredit anyone that complains about ProTools that isn't on THIS LIST. Gearslutz has some great info, but you're not dealing with the people that use the system day in and day out, and post their findings. If they were, they'd be HERE!

Good luck with your system. I'm happy with what we're doing and how we do it. I can only wish you find the same.

and please please please no more "just get a mac replies".both platforms have thier problems. i mean really just go on the mac forum and have a peek

p.s. for less then half of that money you could build a very powerful pc. a bit confused about the update problems you speak of as well but, i'm glad your system agrees with you

I have to say, HAHAHAA, do you like 6031s? Or, do you like pops and clikcs? If you do, Congratulations! You made a great choice! If you don't know what 6031 is, please just search 6031 in this forum.

king hand i had 6031's right from the start. i've finally found the cure for my system. it was the video card driver. i can now make anychange to my system as far as software goes without encountering 6031's.i've been running over a week making all sorts of changes/basically throwing everything at my system............... no more 6031's.
before, this behavior would instantly give me 6031's every 5 secs or less.

i tried win7 64 before fixing my system and had 6031's worse than ever, they came fast and very furious. it was very dissappointing i hoped that win7 would fix things. it did not and i tried for days to troubleshoot on win7 as well.

then with the help of Shane we tracked my systems problem down to a nvidea driver.

i will post my remedy in a few more days but the short of it is, i went to a different video card, ati from nvidea, my problems vanished. i'm now running my very stable hd on pc system again and enjoying all versions of pt8

I'm running HD2 on my current computer with Win7 32 bit.
There are no 6031's.
You know, it's not an automatic thing that if you buy a computer with Windows OS you WILL get 6031.

As to the clicks I've only once had clicks of any kind and that was because of the Lynx Aurora I use. The problem was solved with one phone call to Lynx and had nothing to do with the OS.
