Default 6core/12thread i7 worth it?

Yo

I'm upgrading my computer. Since I don't have a clue when it comes to benchmarks, I thought I ask you guys. Is a 6core/12thread i7 3930 worth the money? Or should I just go with one of the new ivy bridge i7?

Greetings

I would say yes, but I come from the school of "you can't have too much horsepower". In any case, any i7 should do a great job. Make sure you get the appropriate RAM for your mobo and cpu(pay attention to dual, triple and quad channel RAM setups and buy the correct amount and number of sticks).

I run an Intel Six Core (12 thread) i7-3930K Sandy Bridge-E 3.2GHz. It blows away the Quad.

LGA 2011 Socket is compatible with Ivy Bridge.

Ok, thanks for your answers.

As it comes to RAM, they sell those 4x4GB kits, I guess, that would be good?

And LGA 2011 socket, is there anykind of advantage in this?

As I see, the new mainboards don't have any firewire anymore. Any good firewire controller that you can recommend?

Greetings
