003 firmware update on 002 rack...question??

As I was doing some updates on my protools rig, I somehow started a digi 003 firmware update. I couldn't cancel it, I couldn't stop it....I ran it through and now my computer won't recognize the 002 Rack hardware. I found on the digidesign website that this is a problem and the rack has to be "repaired" now. Does anyone have any idea of what the repair is? how to do it? where to take it, if I can't do it myself? It seems that if it's a software issue, there has GOT to be a way to repair it. I have a Windows xp pro system and I also have a Mac G5. They both have worked for the last 4 years. Now they BOTH don't recognize the hardware.

PLEASE let me know if you have an idea! I really need my system up and running! have lots of projects in the works!

Unless someone has a magic solution, I expect that the EPROM needs to be re-flashed(not something that can be done at home)

I'm looking at digi 003 rack+ to replace it and wondering if it just makes more sense to do that. Ideas? Thoughts? Thanks again so much for your help guys!

I dont know the cost but I would get a hold of Digi CSA and find out what it is. I suspect that its a flat rate to reflash the firmware. I would check out the price of the 003+ with after trading in the 002 and weigh the cost of the shipping it to a certfied repair center. If you are really certain that you want a 003+ than its a good time to trade up.

I've looked into the trade-in thing and, unless I'm mis-understanding it slightly, can't I get a better deal somewhere else? They're talking 100's of dollars off of LIST price, right?

I may not understand it fully, but it doesn't seem to be that great of a deal.

Seriously, thank you guys so much for responding! I can't thank you enough. I have projects in the works and I need a solution quickly, but don't want to jump into spending 1500 bux and not get what I really want or need.

Check ZZ sounds, Sweetwater, Alto Music, B&H etc.

I think that the suggested retail prices are fairly fixed by the manufacturer (as are most of the advertised retail prices) I dont think list is all that far of off retail. Or at least what they (the retailer) can advertise as the price and keep their franchise.

It was looking like the 002 would bring between around 500-750 off depending on what you wanted and whether or not you got the factory pack upgrade.
I shopped around when I upgraded my original MBox in on a 002 factory and went with Sweetwater since A) all the prices I was getting were the same. B) it was in stock. C) I avoided paying sales tax since it was out of state D) shipping was free and since their in Fort Wayne, In and I'm in Cleveland OH it's essentially free overnight shipping. F) My local Guitar Center seemed completely uninterested.

Shop around-You may find a better deal.

I think the going rate for a 002 is probably around 650.00 or less on eBay although I haven't checked lately. So weigh the cost of paying to get it fixed including shipping and selling it vs the Hardware Exchange program.
