Personally, I think MEAT is mistaken, since PTMP works great with my current quad core AMD (dual-dual cores).

However, I don't think you will get a definitive answer until a)someone gets one and tests it, or b)digidesign tests and approves one.

I have a similar question, but thats for a different thread...

So...

I thought that PT would use one core but there is a setting to allow other cores to be dedicated to plug in processing? Or in the case of our dual proc G5s at school, it would use the other proc for plugin processing... Theres a setting somewhere I thought for that. Can't remember right off where it is, tho...

The Mac Pro uses 2 Xeons not Core 2 Duos, there are currently no chipsets that support 2 Core 2 Duos on the same mobo. The Mac Pro uses and recognizes all four Processors and Nikki-K was getting a DVERB count of 190 as I recall. XP Pro should recognize all four cores but will only recognize 4 GBs or less off memory which will ultimately throttle the performance down. Cdxpat swapped his Core 2 duo for a Quad and posted that he was having problems. I think its safe to assume that DIGI will support the intel Quad processors in the future some time but fore the moment I would build a machine thats powered by a Core duo that you can upgrade to a Intel quad series processor if and when they are supported. PT will see all 4 cores but that doesn't mean that the intel Core 2 Quad is Processor is supported.

I've been using Protools MP on a quad Opteron box for about a year, worked beautifully out-of-the-box, never had a Protools rig require so little fussing to work so well, including on Macs.

But quad-core CPU's are a different animal, it's more a matter of what mobo's support them, and whether PT MP supports the mobo's.
