Ya, I held command R and tried it like 40 times haha. Each boot takes an hour to get into recovery from my location here...still no go.

It’ll almost be done installing by now, and then I’ll see if I can disable that T2...and, well Mojave will be installed too so I can get to setting up the rig as well now too...

Of course, if it wasn’t stuck on “About 2 minutes remaining” for the last 2 hours...

EDIT - running and installing apps as we speak!

This thing is just flyin'!!!!

Question...do you guys suggest installing iStat and managing the fans yourself? I've had to do that for years on our 2012 MacBook Pro's as their fans tend to come on far too late...was wondering if I should be doing the same on this.

It does get quite warm, and all I've been doing is mostly installing apps and plugins all day...

Thanks!
Sig

I would leave the fans alone unless you really really find you have a problem. Work on getting good airflow around it. Like a stand, external slow fan.

[EDIT]: I should explain why I say that. I went through a phase where I was tweaking my 17" MBP fans to lower temps. Worked great, for a while. And after a year or so I ended up going through two cooling fans that started making horrible noises. I'd leave along unless really needed, and after trying external solutions to lower temps.

The fans in mine only start being audible around 60% on Pro Tools' meters. That, or bouncing offline, rending EA tracks, etc.. I have mine on a "heat spreader" laptop stand.

I've heard a lot of good things from users who have taken the Mini apart and replaced the thermal paste on the CPU; I wouldn't want to void the warranty, tho.

PS - Yes, I was correct in that you cannot change the T2 security without an actual OS installed on the drive...once I got all that going, reboot and command+R brought up the menus as expected.

Thanks again!!

I was getting annoyed with the fan noise when PTs was pushing it (every time I did an offline bounce) so I installed "Turbo Boost Switcher" and turn off turbo boost. Now the fans NEVER kick up to audible speeds. HOWEVER offline bounces take a bit longer. Otherwise, no noticeable impact on PTs.

Don’t know why, and this isn’t the first Mojave install to do this to me, but I can’t get the computer to shut down...it just hangs all the time. I assumed it was my other computers at the time, but now that the brand new Mini is doing it too....

Interface driver? Try uninstalling that (or just unplugging any interface as a first test).

Poking around in the logs in Console.app may show something.

Ya, UAD Apollo Twin in this case...but I've had the weird shutdown stuff on a separate MacBook Pro 2012 with only a Duet2 installed...

Never had this kinda stuff in older OS's, it's new...always just assumed it was the older computers not jiving with Mojave or High Sierra, but now I'm seeing it again on this mini and it's making me question it...
