For me it´s not that reason.. It´s more the ability to adjust the volumes in your film sessions in an easy, comfy and clearly arranged way..

i.e.
in a shooting scene I have that landing helicopter sound from different angles including blades, wind..etc. built of 15 different clips spread over several tracks

Now I decide to have that whole helicopter construction 3dB louder....

Whe easiest way was to multi- select the concerning regions and find a small dB parameter box in the DAW where you can relatively adjust the dB value of all selected items..

omg.. I´m dreaming

Thats the big thing MISSING in ProTools.

aaaarhggggh..
@ cubivore.. Do you miss it NOW?

This is the first official acknowledgment I have seen on this! Today the dawn seems brighter. I am now shedding tears of joy (in a manly way of course).

I also have never had clip based gain so I would not know the difference. Whats wrong with doing what you asked via the volume automation lanes?

What about trim automation?

it´s way more complicated the more complex the project

...with the automation lanes you always have to be aware of existing automation and breakpoints at the selection start/end. Otherwise the volume change will make crooked automation..
... you have to organize temp groups to change regions on multiple tracks simultaneously..
.... you can´t change volume of multiple regions at once independent from time selection..

The region-based "Object Editor" in Sequoia is unbelievably awesome. Double-click a region, and you get this: http://www.samplitude.com/uploads/SA...ditor_1000.jpg -- of course, this is in addition to standard automation, etc. And it's in english in the US version, obviously.

I could die happy if this were implemented in PT.

Oh, and while I'm harping, (and Digi seems to be listening to this thread), I would like to also mention that Sequoia has basic EQ+filters on every channel, a fantastic crossfade editor, multi-user preferences and fully customizable keyboard shortcuts, source-destination editing, and complete mastering capabilities (redbook CD/DDP export, PQ generation) straight out of the timeline.
