Good question, im just organising a loan for a cheap 733. I've heard that with the 733 you can achieve using all tracks and also more plugs aswell. I have a 400 at the moment and I only get about 16 tracks, a few light plugs and a Dverb and I get error messages!

I heard somewhere that a 733 w/L2 cache is about the same as a 533 w/ L3 cache? I personally own a 733 quicksilver and I am able to do what I need to do. I've heard arguments on both sides, but I have no real experience with an older 733 so I don't know for sure. All I know is that my machine runs like a stallion and does damn near everything I ask of it.

Sure would like to try a 933 w/ L3 cache though....

No problem w/ 24 tracks and a ton of plugins as long as they're not all Bomb Factory and Realverbs.

Default 733 without backside level 3 cache worth it??

There's a 733 G4 without level 3 backside cache for cheap...is it worth getting or should I stay with something with the level 3 cache?

I just bought the 933 with the Level 3 backside cache. The very smart guy at Tekserve said that the reason that the newer (cheaper) 733s were so much less is that they were lacking the level 3 cache and that it would make a difference as far as plug-ins etc. I decided to spend that extra cash ($1000 more) and hope for the best.

There have been previous threads on this issue in which people have strongly advanced the need for the level 3 backside if i'm not mistaken.

good luck,
