Default Octo preamps Question

Hi !!

To record my drums i use a M-audio octane :
( XLR snake > Maudio octane > 003 mixer Adat input )

Just for curiosity i tested with a snare tracks the octane adat signal vs. the 003 direct input and for my ears the 003 were more airy and clear sound than the octane 8 .

Someone who has tested this ?
Is the digimax LT or the Focurite octopre better preapms ?
How much the wordclock affect the sound ?
BNC or ADAT signal to wordclock ?

I used it only to record drums ***

Thanks !

I do not know the Octane or the 003.

I find the focusrite octopre to be more clearer and cleaner than the 002's. I do not have data to back this up but they seem like they are higher quality.

With your setup, the BNC is not needed. Just set Pro Tools to Sync to optical. For sure, the 003 preamps are cleaner that the older 002. As for sounding better(or worse) than the Octane, trust your ears.
