Pro Tools 6.1 software is available as a free update for all current Pro Tools 6.x owners. You may pick up your Pro Tools 6.1 update CD from your local Digidesign dealer or visit the support section of the Digidesign website to download the free update. In either case, you must have Pro Tools 6.x software already installed in order to use the Pro Tools 6.1 software update. Expected availability of both the CD and the web download is mid July. Update CDs are not available from Digidesign directly. If you prefer a CD, you must visit your local dealer.

If You Purchased Your Pro Tools System on April 1, 2003 or Later...
If you purchased a new Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools MIX, Digi 001, Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, Mbox or refurbished Pro Tools MIX product on April 1, 2003 or later, and you've registered this product, you qualify for a free upgrade. Please allow 2 to 3 weeks for delivery.

Well I bought my 002 in March.

If I used a Mac, I would have received V6 for free and now 6.1 for free.

But, I use a PC, so I have to pay $75 if I want to go to 6.1

So, for all 002 users who bought prior to April Fools' day....

Mac = Free
PC = $75

Due to the update confusion discussed in the Mac 002 thread, all registered 002 owners, Mac and PC, will receive a free platform specific upgrade to 6.x. If you are registered for a PC 002 you will receive PTLE 6.1 via mail to your registered address.

and that's lame, too - since I bought mine a month ago, and reasonably expected to get a 6.x software for each platform. Nothing in the documentation suggested I needed to decided which OS I'm committed to.

I've used PC's for years, but I'm considering a Mac.
