Default HD Native AudioMidiSetup problem

Hello! We are having an issue with our HD Native card/Omni and AudioMidiSetup in OSX. Basically, AMS will not save any changes we make to the audio output. We need to be able to monitor DVDs in surround in our suite, and have been able to do this in the past with a 003r and VLC. Now, every time we change the multispeaker configuration, and exit out of AMS, it immediately reverts back to Stereo Output 1 and 2.

I have already tried trashing the ProTools prefs, and deleting the AudioMidi preference file from the Library. It creates a new one, as it should, but still cannot hold changes.

Any thoughts?
HD Native/Omni, OSX 10.8.3, MacPro 5,1.

Thanks!

Not sure exactly how you are connected. If you connect your Mac via hdmi or optical to a surround amp all you have to do is have the proper tracks selected in VLC or DVD player and the amp will switch from stereo to surround automatically no need for audio midi setup to be configured. I have an omni and as far as I have found you can't play your macs audio through it like you can with an MBox. I know you can see the native card as a sound output source in your macs sound outs list but it doesn't do anything. I am pretty new to the onmni myself but this is what I have found so far.

Digi snake connects right to Genelec sub.
We do not have a problem getting CoreAudio to play through the L and R speakers. We just can't assign it to a multi speaker configuration. AMS will not save any changes...

Sorry now I get what you are doing.... I tried the same thing to change the speaker config to 5.1 in the AMS and same thing happened, when I quit, it reverted to stereo. It seemed to stay on 5.1 after I hit apply, but reverts to stereo after quitting.
