Tempo mapping/Tab to transients/identifying beat tedium
Having painstakingly just completed mapping out an old project (imported from Sony Vegas 2.0!) and replacing the live drums with EZDrummer, I thought I might never try THAT again. Oh nay. On to another oldie where I used an Alesis SR-16 drum machine and drumagog. I figured the tempo would be static since it was a drum machine but nope, I get anywhere from 189 bpm to 194 bpm using tab to transients/Control I.
So on to my question. Is there any shortcuts in this process?? I'm looking at about 650 tab to transients. I mean, I'm not on the clock or anything, but geez. I tried poking around Beat Detective and RTFM, but fell short. |

Re: Tempo mapping/Tab to transients/identifying beat tedium
Yeah, the shortcut would be Beat Detective. I'll usually map the tempo out at intervals of 8 bars or maybe the start of a section (verse, chorus, bridge) and use BD to map each section. Then I'll listen and look at the grid to make sure everything is right, and if not you can undo, fix the beat markers and redo it. Usually works well but there are almost always corrections to be made.
I know all about those old drum machine tracks and the fluctuating tempos - kinda crazy though some of it could be attributed to inconsistent tape speeds I suppose!

Now that QuicKeys is defunct, learn Keyboard Maestro. You can create scripts and save them to trigger from a hotkey, or custom hotkey keyboard.

My apologies. Even though it has not been updated since 2009, apparently QuicKeys is still fully functional and working just fine in macOS High Sierra according to reports:
