Default Connecting new Keyboard to MBox2 and ProTools

I have worked with ProTools for several years now and have produced many completed tracks. I have just bought a new keyboard (Roland FA-08) and cannot get it to play through ProTools.

I have connected it via xlr input into the MBox, and all I can do is get it to work as a midi controller rather than playing with its own sounds via ProTools.

Please could somebody provide me with a step-by-step guide of what settings I need to go set up to start getting some sound in ProTools. I would be very grateful!

Thanks!

Victoria

It would help to know which Mbox you have.

For recording the sounds, if you haven't done this, you need to create an audio track (mono or stereo, depending on what you want), and set the inputs of that track to match the physical input the keyboard is plugged into. Then record arm the track, and you should be good to go.

What Nst7 is saying is you need to physically connect Audio output from Keyboard to Audio in Mbox with cables then assign the corresponding Mbox input on an Audio track in Pro Tools.

Thanks for your comments. I am still no further forward. I have connected the out on the keyboard to input one on my Mbox via a jack to XLR cable. I have created an audio track and assigned this to input one. Still no sound at all is picked up on Pro Tools. The bar doesn't even move or register anything. I have an MBox 2. Is there anything you can suggest?

2 questions:
1-is the Mbox the selected audio engine(in PT>Setup>Hardware)?
2-have you recorded ANYTHING successfully to an audio track?

You need to hit the Record arming button on the audio track, and make sure that you have input monitoring set to "Input Only" rather than "Auto".

Alternatively, if you want to just check the signal is routed properly, set up an Aux track, with it's input set to the corresponding channel on your Hardware I/O, and thetracks output is set directly to your main out's / monitors.

Maybe too obvious, but...
The keyboard's volume control is up? The input level on the MBox channel is up?

Add that most keyboards have a left and right output and the op needs to connect both to the mBox and select a stereo track. And don't forget to watch the levels going into the interface too.
