Re: Quietest Fans, Heatsinks, and PSUs
Case: Lian-Li 6070A - $155 - Brushed aluminum case with closing front door. All pannels have a rubber seal around them and sound dampening material.
http://translate.google.com/translat...Ephp%3Fid%3D76 CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS7000A-CU - $50 - EXTREMELY QUIET cpu cooler. When I set this to low during recording I can't hear it at all 2 feet from it with the case open. http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/prod...ps7000a-cu.htm VGA Cooler: Zalman ZM80C-HP - $35 - Fanless design. Only downside is that removing the current cooler will probably ruin your warrenty, and you do have to check compatibility with your CPU Cooler and MOBO Compatibility. http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/ZM80C-HP.htm Hard Drive Enclosure: Smart Drive 2002C - $70 - Aluminum enclosure with copper linning on the inside to help promote heat dissipation. Good with 7200 RPM Drives. http://www.siliconacoustics.com/smar...enclosure.html Power Supply Unit: Nexus NX-3500 - $80 - A large 120mm fan is located on the bottom side of the PSU allowing for better air flow inside of the case and no direct fan noise to the outside. Besides the overly priced fanless PSU's, this is the quietest PSU on the market. http://www.siliconacoustics.com/nexu...wersupply.html Fans: Papst 8412NGLLE 80mm fan - $30 - Quietest fan on the market, only 9 db! Papst 4412F/2GL 120mm fan - $25 - Large and quiet fan, however should be used with a fan speed controller and takes up one power cord from PSU. http://www.siliconacoustics.com/fans.html The Grand Total of Calvin's Quiet Case supplies is $460 dollars. That does not include extra fans, however it does include two hard drive inclosures for a 2 HD system. |

Wholly smackerels you guys like spending money on low noise systems.
How about just getting a longer cable to the 001 or 002 hardware and running it on the other side of the wall? Allen |

Re: Quietest Fans, Heatsinks, and PSUs
good idea...again, i'm new to protools so i wasn't sure why people all wanted quiet systems. so yeah, why is it that it is important to get a quiet system? is it for people who record in the same room as their computers???

Re: Quietest Fans, Heatsinks, and PSUs
For me, I record in the same room, the closer I can be to the computer without excessive noise in the mics the better.
And I just hate the constant whir. It reminds me too much of where I work in the daytime. Quote:
