48Khz trouble
We normally work in the 44.1 land here but have to do 48 for some
clients. The trouble I'm having is I get a lot of static and pops when I'm trying to go load and download audio from Dat to Hard Disc. I've tried every combination of sync and hardware set-ups I can. My gear consists of Tascam DA-30 Dat. Mac Quadra 950. System Accelerator, 2-442 Interfaces. Version 3.2 Pro Tools, 2.82 Sound Designer. When I load 48k into computer I can here pooping and snapping. but when I play back it seems to go away. When I load from hard disc to Dat (Digitally) my Dat machine goes a little nuts with the meters and spikes. Any Suggestions? |

Re: 48Khz trouble
The DAT machine problem is a standard problem with ALL Tascam DAT's especially when using the SPDIF protocol Tascam in their infinate wisdom decided to alter the digitial I/O protocol to perform some propriotory task which left the machine incompatible with digi hardware, especially the Audiomedia series.
Digi originaly offered a hardware fix but recently managed to incoporate it into the software providing Tascam or other options in the hardware setup (Do your meters stick to the end and record a strange signal?) last week I made a transfer of some 48k material to disk and decided the best way was analogue so I set pro tools to 44.1 and started to record. Later I discovered that I had forgoten to set the input to analogue, the result a large click at randon-ish 30 sec intervals on random tracks (any similarity??? if not forget it.) |

Re: 48Khz trouble
With Tascam and Digi, ALWAYS use AES/EBU. Always use the machine playing the audio as the Master clock (if playing DAT, this is master, PT is slave). Also, on Sound Designer, unlike Pro Tools, 48K requires FAST hard drive. Jaz, for instance, has many problems with 48k (whereas 44.1 has always worked at my studio using SD2)
