Default pro tools and digital/analog mixer set up..please help

How do you or pro studios set there studios up. lets say I had a digital or analog console with 48-96 or how ever many channels and my pro tools session has 48 to 96 or however many channels my mixer has. How do you guys or pro studios connect there 192's or 96's to the mixer if each interface only has 8 ins and outs? or is there something im missing and theres something else they do?

One adds multiple interfaces to the system, thereby gaining expanded connectivity options. Also, the flagship 192 I/O allows the use of so-called expansion cards, which are available in three flavors (analog In, Analog Out, Digital I/O). In the case of Analog Outputs, installing the appropriate card will bring the total number of outs from eight (in a stock model) to 16.

IHTH.
