Not being able to run the Keyboard shortcuts in the background, it's just plain stupid!!!!

You need to be able to look up the particular key controls and test them without having to write them down, then go to the Pro Tools window and test the Kees to see if exactly that is the particular key command that you need.

Did you get your head out of your dairy air and make it just a background window.

There is a key command for enabling background shortcuts.
Unfortunately it doesn't work in the foreground.

What are background shortcuts?

Mac or PC? OS shortcuts take precedence so you must disable them on Mac to use something like Command Space to record in Pro Tools. There are definitely others as well. I can post a list if helpful.

I believe he means being able to have the keyboard shortcut window (where you customize the commands) open at the same time as everything else. Right now it has to have focus and you have to close it to go back to the Edit/Mix windows to try the command out.

I don't have a problem with it as it is now because PT gives you any conflicts and I pick the key combo I want to use before assigning it. But I can see how this could be an annoyance to others if you need to "test" the command.

I must admit, I didn't get OP's original post (hence the attempt at a joke) but I after reading BScout's interpretation I just tried it and yes, I agree - that must be the problem. I thought OP was wanting keyboard shortcuts to work from the Finder.
I usually do the same as BScout, so I've never ran into this but after trying it I can see how it might be irritating to program, close, then test a command, and then have to re-enter the window if it's not doing as you want.
