Pro tools takes lightyears to open
I'm not sure what happened to cause this issue.
Pro tools 12.4 on Windows 8.1 Pro 64 gigs ram i7core. etc. Etc.. it's it's a tank. It was working perfectly up until yesterday after not using pro tools for a week I open it up, got a weird error and it stated "pro tools has suffered an error and pc must be rebooted" I reboot and open pro tools... then it slowly Initialize the database, loading xpand2 etc.. each screen takes a long time. Eventually I gave up the ghost and had to hardbooted the pc once the pc became unresponsive. I reboot like 3 times just to make sure it understands... it still opens up incredibly slow. I haven't made any additions to the track in a while. Just edits for the last 2 weeks so no additional plugins added that would increase load on the pc. Anybody else experience anything similar?

Re: Pro tools takes lightyears to open
Lightyears or Parsecs or ...
What I do: I close my projects but I don't quit Pro Tools, unless I need to reboot my machine. Pro Tools seems faster when cached and warmed up. When I need to reboot and wait for Pro Tools to start and load my first session I go to get myself a glass of water, stand up and breath deeply. It's "rewind tape" time.

Trash preferences. Do you have a CD/DVD in your optical drive? If so, take it out.

Re: Pro tools takes lightyears to open
Also may be time to check your operating system hard drive, it may be failing. You of course have an image you can bring back to a new hard drive or a cloned hard drive you can swap in, yes?
Cheers,

Re: Pro tools takes lightyears to open
You didn't by chance move or delete C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Pro Tools or any of its contents, did you? That could explain the longer launch time.

Re: Pro tools takes lightyears to open
Thank you all, good suggestions That I will implement. I like the idea of keeping pro tools open... regardless if the pc goes to sleep it'll keep PT loaded in memory. I think may be the anti virus however I have had It on the pc since I installed pro tools and never had issues until now. I have never dumped my preference so I'll give that a shot. Also I need to do some massive clean up on my unused / bad wav audio that isn't used in the session but eats up space in the project folder. Any way to just napom bomb all unused audio in a session that way you don't waste slace.

Re: Pro tools takes lightyears to open
Disabling sleep and hibernate is part of the optimization process, isn't it?

Re: Pro tools takes lightyears to open
Yeah, skip sleep and hibernation as well as disk spinn down - anything that saves energy and our children's future. Physically turn off your monitor to save energy (if you don't value the extra heat it generates) but keep your computer running. There are computer / OS optimization guides made by Avid. Google and you'll find them.
