Default Transfering PT10 studio session/API1608 to PT10/MOTU 896MK3?

Hi,

My band is recording drums at a studio with a good (api) board, PT10 HD (or pt10), from a Mac. I am going to be taking the session home with me, because I'm editing on my own setup: Windows 7, MOTU 896MK3, PT10.

How can I ensure that I receive a full copy of the session without worrying about the file corrupting due to a mismatch of systems, or something catastrophic like that? Assume no plugins are being used, stock PT10 plugs if any.

Also: After editing on my home setup, how would I correctly transfer my edited copy of the PT10 session back into the same studio?

I guess I'm worried about compatibility issues. I'm going to try opening a pt session of mine to the studio's computer and see what comes up.

Can I hear your opinion?

No compatibility issues, as long as you have the correct disk allocation. Transfer the full session folder (not just the session file) and you should have everything you need.

Once you move the session to a different system, you will have to reassign some stuff in the I/O setup. Chances are this will just entail reassigning the main outs. If you plan on re-doing some takes or adding overdubs, you'll obviously need to reassign some inputs so you can use them. But this will not affect the internal buses in PT, and it will not do any damage to your session. You'll know the I/O mismatch when you see it, because there will be a popup message.

Nothing should give you trouble. PT sessions are cross-platform (windows and mac) and also work across versions - PTX files work with PT10-PT12, and sessions can also be saved to older formats for use with earlier versions of Pro Tools. But I should remind you to always keep a backup of the session, and also enable session file backups on your own system.
