Pro Tools 9 Ilok Required?

If I have my Eleven Rack attached to my computer do I still have to have a Ilok dongle attached when using Pro Tools 9?

I purchased the Cross grade and I will buy an Ilok, but I would rather wait for a few weeks before getting the Ilok as most suppliers do not have the new (smaller) version in stock yet.

I had to get the ilok to use mine. I know there were newer iloks that have come out but i just got what was there, the way i see it, its still WAY smaller than luggin my rack around, and i'm very glad they did it that way :)

If you haven't upgraded your machine yet, you will have to wait, or, just get the 'older' ilok, which, while a little larger, is still WAY smaller :)

You won't do anything without the iLok, the Eleven Rack is not a license dongle for Pro Tools 9. Sweetwater's website says they have them in stock.

Yes, you must have an iLok to authorize Pro Tools 9, and it must remain connected the whole time you're running Pro Tools. But, at least that's ALL you need now to run PT on a laptop...

I am definately pro Ilok instead of the interface (the main reason I upgraded), but was just open it could be used either way. But I understand why it isn't.

The new iLoks are smaller, less likely to be snapped in half accidentally (what a nightmare!), look cooler, and hold way more licenses than the old ones. Definitely worth picking one up if you don't have one. I'm pretty sure the full boxed copies of PT9 come with one in the box.

I'm still waiting to hear of/see an iLok which has been snapped in half.

Even the older ones are quite resilient.

I've snapped 3 of them in half over the years, when they were plugged into the front port of one of my various test machines (towers). Of course, it was my fault for stepping on them, and not using a USB extender, but still, I think I have a strong legal case here. Hmmm....
